I was so honored to photograph this wedding -- two people faithfully serving their country in the military, and one from a family I just adore! The Kalkwarfs have been friends and clients of mine for years, so of course I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of such a special day! When I finally met Britt (both she and Nolan are stationed in Hawaii) it was really like we were old friends.
Nolan & Brittany's wedding day was the one cool day smack-dab in the middle of one of Seattle's hottest summers on record....which came as a welcome relief to my 8-month pregnant (at the time) self! Cedar Springs is a lush green venue in Kitsap County, and it really lent itself well to the chosen decor. Nolan was firm on not wanting to see Britt until the ceremony, so after a few bridal portraits and bridesmaid/groomsmen photos Nolan was blindfolded and led to his bride for a sweet personal moment of hand-holding and prayer. I love personal touches like that! Nolan stayed blindfolded until Britt walked down the aisle for a beautiful reveal and reaction. Such joy.
The reception was a fun party with lots of lawn games (hand-made cornhole and giant Jenga were favorites), a fire pit, giant swing, toasts, dinner, dancing, and the entertaining Shoe Game. I was so happy to get to photograph it all!
Congratulations to Nolan & Britt -- there is such a long lifetime of joy and happiness ahead of you! Mahalo, friends!
